Actor and comedian Alex Duong dies at 42
27, Jun 2026Alex Duong, an actor and comedian known for his work on "Blue Bloods," died Saturday, according to an update on a GoFundMe page started last year to support him and his family during his cancer treatment.
He was 42.
"With the heaviest hearts, we share that our dear Alex passed away peacefully this morning, surrounded by love and dear friends. He was comfortable and thankfully out of pain," Hilarie Steele, who started the fundraising page, said in an update.
According to her post, Duong's wife, Christina Duong, and daughter, Everest, "were able to see him last night, and he was alert enough to say goodbye to his little girl, whom he has treasured every moment since the day she was born."
Steele said the family is "devastated, but so grateful for the support, prayers, and generosity you have all shown during this unimaginable time."
Duong had been diagnosed with alveolar rhabdomyosarcoma, he told the Los Angeles Times last year. The diagnosis came after a headache that developed behind his eyes at the beginning of last year, followed by a left eye bulge so noticeable that his boss sent him home from work.
According to the L.A. Times, Duong had a tumor blocking blood flow to his optic nerve, which, after a biopsy, was labeled "extremely aggressive."
Rhabdomyosarcoma is a soft-tissue cancer most common in children, but the type that Duong had usually affects all ages equally, according to the American Cancer Society.
Duong had gone into septic shock Friday, Steele wrote in an earlier update. At the time, she said Duong was "fighting for his life" and that "everything has changed so quickly."
Duong played Sonny Le on "Blue Bloods" from 2021 to 2024 and racked up TV credits on "Pretty Little Liars," "The Young and the Restless" and "90210," among many others.
