See how new voting maps in Texas and California shift the political landscape
24, Jun 2026California voters have approved a ballot measure that clears the way for a new state congressional map.
The proposed lines aim to help Democrats pick up five U.S. House seats, countering a new map enacted in August by Republicans in Texas that shifts five U.S. House districts to the GOP.
President Trump urged the Texas redraw, kicking off this redistricting battle between the two major political parties ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
So how exactly do the districts shift in these two states? The graphics below compare the 2024 presidential results under the current district lines to what the results would have been under the new maps. Of course, a Democrat can win a U.S. House seat in a Trump-won district, and vice versa, but the graphics offer a glimpse of the shifting political terrain.
